Sanders Will Run for President, Progressive Wing Energized
It was only about 3 weeks ago that NYPAN overwhelmingly passed a resolution calling for Bernie and other Progressives to join the race for President in 2020... Well, today that call was answered as Senator Sanders, the most popular elected leader in our country, announced a second run for the Democratic nomination which he came so close to winning in 2016.
In fact, NYPAN was founded by progressive, grassroots groups throughout NY State which supported Bernie and came together to petition him and over 100 delegates onto the NY State ballot. We collected an historic and unprecedented 85,000 signatures in the middle of winter to put Bernie and his delegates onto the ballot. Members of the future NYPAN then campaigned all over NY State and won an astounding 42% of the closed primary vote in Hilary’s home state and with the entire Democratic establishment lined up against Bernie and his supporters.
To be clear, NYPAN has not made an endorsement yet as now it is a large democratic membership organization with an open and deliberative endorsement process which now is just beginning. But there is no denying or delaying the fact that progressives everywhere welcome Bernie joining this race and raising the important issues that we and a large majority Americans want raised:
· MEDICARE FOR ALL
· PROGRESSIVE TAX SYSTEM
· FREE PUBLIC COLLEGE TUITION
· COMPREHENSIVE IMMIGRATION REFORM
· CRIMINAL JUSTICE REFORMS
· RAISING THE MINIMUM WAGE TO A LIVING WAGE
· MOVING TO 100% RENEWABLE ENERGY
· RESTORING ERODED VOTING AND UNION RIGHTS
· AN END TO UNENDING WARS AND INVASIONS.
In fact, the only institutions which are not celebrating Bernie’s second run are the corporate media, the billionaire class and the party elites, which fear the rise of people-powered movements and campaigns.
The 1% are already up to their old tricks, and we need your help to get the word out. We can’t get a progressive candidate like Bernie and 27 progressive delegate slates (one for each congressional district) on the NY Ballot unless we have the resources to accomplish such an immense undertaking. Would you consider helping us prepare for that and other necessary organizing tasks by making a $27 donation to NYPAN? All of us who have worked on the ground know: it's people power against the billionaires - and the people can't win unless we support all the tiny moving parts of this huge movement with small contributions. Let's show the 1% what we're made of.
