NYPAN STATEMENT ON CUOMO

NYPAN SAYS: NO TO CUOMO

New York City – Moments ago, Andrew Cuomo, the disgraced ex NY Governor, descended like a vulture into the NYC Mayor’s race, with the support of some of the same rich Republican oligarchs who helped fund his long autocratic rule in Albany. This is the same Cuomo who was forced to resign as Governor as he faced multiple accusations of sexual abuse of employees, the forced return of thousands of elderly to certain Covid death in nursing homes run by political donors and the use of paid staff to work of his personal and profitable book. In his announcement, he neglected to recall his 10 years of betrayal of the Democratic Party and NY’s voters as he empowered a treasonous party caucus of Dems – the IDC – who handed control of the NYS Senate to the minority Republicans who in turn blocked reform measures vital to the States working people.

While the early polls give Cuomo an advantage due to his almost universal name recognition, NYPAN intends to join the many progressive and good government organizations to set the record straight. NYers have been led for the last 3 years by a Mayor who has been indicted for corruption, served the predatory interests of his rich real estate developer donors as working people have lost the ability to afford their homes and apartments and who now continues to rule only by the good graces and under the anti-immigrant conditions set by Trump. As we NYers bear the brunt of Trump & Co.’s brutal attacks, we do not intend to substitute one unfit Mayor allied with Trump with another who rules by intimidation just like Trump.

Fortunately, there are several progressive, honest and principled candidates who are also running who are true Democrats and have exemplary records of helping workers, tenants, and the majority of NYers. NYPAN has endorsed a slate of four of those candidates, whom voters should include on their rank choice ballot which allows up to 5 ranked choices. Go to nypan.org to see and learn about those candidates.

But under no circumstances should any voter list on their ballot and rank Cuomo or Eric Adams. Even as your fifth (and final) choice. That is the only way that either of these unprincipled choices - Eric Adams or Cuomo – could become Mayor. We have the power to say NO TO CUOMO AND ERIC ADAMS.
